What is a “Strain”?

Cannabis strains are either pure or hybrid varieties, typically of sativa and indica. Varieties are developed to intensify specific characteristics of the parent plants. Strains are named for purposes of identification.  There are also strains of organic hemp flower as CBD grows in popularity.

Strain (noun):
  1. Pronounced: /strān/
  2. The particular variety of cannabis flower.
  3. Essentially a name for types of cannabis, based on botanical lineage, aroma, flavor, effects, etc.
  4. A breed, stock, or variety of an animal or plant developed by breeding.

“This is my favorite dispensary, they always have a good selection of strains.”
“What’s your favorite strain?”
