Writer Profile: Melinda Hany

Melle is a person who is passionate about everything she does. From her full-time job as a nurse technician at an OB-GYN practice in Central Illinois, to her writing career, she fully throws herself headfirst into life. Life is too short to not take chances. Her love of writing in the 2nd grade, when her teacher introduced daily writing assignments and she was able to write creatively. She continued writing and blogging through her teens and twenties, citing the ability to get things out of her head and onto paper as something that likely saved her life at a few points. She ultimately decided to start writing professionally about a decade ago, and hasn’t looked back. Now 38, she balances a writing career, a nursing career, parenting a teenager, and as much activism as possible with only 24 hours in a day. Melle has always been passionate about cannabis related activism. She was on the frontlines in Illinois during their push first for medicinal and recently recreational cannabis legalization. She’s always found the potential of this amazing plant to be underutilized, and has recently been interested in researching more about how it can help with sexual wellness. Combining two things she’s incredibly passionate about has been a game changer, and sharing what she’s learned is when she is the happiest. It has always been a goal of Melle’s to do everything with compassionate awareness, and she lives every day with mindfulness and enthusiasm, even when things are at their worst. She believes fully that everyone is fighting their own demons and lives by a quote by Michelle McNamara... “It’s chaos, be kind.” When she’s not at home writing and spending time with her family, she can be found at a local coffee shop enjoying a latte, going to a punk show, or out walking her dog, Lotus.
