Restorative Botanicals Restore PURE6 Hemp Oil (1800 mg) Product Review

The oil smells bright, citrusy, and clean, with a woodsy finish. We detected notes of lemon, rosemary, bergamot, lavender, pine needles, and cedar, likely owing to the different terpenes and flavonoids in the full spectrum hemp extract the product contains.

We enjoyed the scent of the oil very much — as cannabis enthusiasts, we appreciate the herb-forward profile and the evident terpene content, and we have high hopes for its effectiveness as well as its flavor.

Because this oil is not flavored with any other ingredients aside from the full-spectrum CBD it contains, it tastes very, as one tester put it, “green,” and it’s pretty intense because of the high concentration of hemp extract in each dose.

We didn’t mind this — woodsy notes of cedar and pine mingled with brighter flavors of lemon and hops, mellowed by the smooth and earthy flavor of fresh green tea — but we could see how it could be too much for sensitive palates. The flavor is a lot of herbal notes without much of any sweetness, which can be too much for some consumers.

The overall profile of this particular oil is a sort of “tour de forest,” as one tester phrased it, and it was really rather enjoyable for those of us who enjoy things like IPAs, 85% dark chocolate, and black coffee. That said, if you’re not one for earthy flavors, this particular blend might be a bit intense.

The flavor doesn’t hang around long or turn up in burps afterward (gross), but if you’re really, really averse to the taste, you could try adding it to a snack like a handful of nuts, applesauce, or fresh fruit to minimize the taste and counteract the bitter notes.

This dosing strategy will mean that your dose will absorb through your digestive tract rather than the soft tissues of your mouth, so it may take longer for you to feel symptom relief.

That said, the effects of the oil may last a bit longer than when most of the CBD is absorbed sublingually, closer to 8 hours as opposed to 5-6. Ultimately, it’s up to you to decide your preferred dosing method, and that may take a little experimentation.

The Restore PURE6 oil is notably more viscous than its CALM counterpart, likely owing in part to the considerably higher concentration of CBD and other beneficial cannabinoids alongside the terpenes and flavonoids of the original hemp material. The result is a richly colored deep jade green oil, translucent with an ambery undertone.

It’s a very aesthetically pleasing oil in the dropper, but its higher viscosity had us a little concerned that it would stick around and leave a lingering aftertaste when consumed sublingually.

Our fears were assuaged upon dosing with the oil. It does not feel at all unpleasantly viscous in the mouth and, more importantly to us, doesn’t stick around under the tongue and in the throat, leading to odd terpene burps after dosing.

A few of our more taste-sensitive testers reported a little bit of a bitter aftertaste, similar to hops, that lasted about 5 minutes after dosing (a few sips of water, tea, or coffee helped to clear this up more quickly), but we didn’t experience a lingering bad taste. The terpene content of this oil makes for an intense flavor, but the consistency of the oil helps that intensity to disperse in a timely manner.

When the oil is taken sublingually, the effects come on a bit more quickly than when it is added to food or swallowed immediately. When we allowed the oil to remain under the tongue for 1-2 minutes before swallowing, we felt our symptoms begin to subside about 15-30 minutes from dosing. Consuming the oil in food or a beverage like a smoothie resulted in a slower onset time — 45 to 60 minutes from dosing, depending on your metabolism and other factors.

We enjoy the adjustability of tinctures like this one because there’s some built-in flexibility to suit your dosing needs. If you’re in need of more immediate relief, take them sublingually to feel better faster. If you’re looking to use your dose to address more chronic symptoms, allow the oil to absorb through your digestive tract instead for longer-acting effects. Whichever way you choose, you can be confident that you’ll feel the effects of this oil in a timely manner.

About an hour after taking the oil sublingually (and closer to 2 when added to food) we felt significant relief from a variety of symptoms relating to pain, inflammation, anxiety, tension, stress, stiffness, digestive discomfort, headaches, and mental clarity.

The PURE6 oil effectively alleviated the symptoms we turn to CBD to treat and could also be used for other applications outside of those listed here. If a symptom is rooted in inflammation (and there’s some compelling evidence out there to support that it is), CBD tinctures like this one may provide effective relief.

For most of our team, the 43 mg of full spectrum hemp extract in a half-milliliter serving were sufficient to provide lasting relief from mild to moderate symptoms (this was true for both chronic and acute pain, swelling, inflammation, and mood-related symptoms). That said, a few of us found that we operated better on a full milliliter (one full dropper) instead of the half recommended.

If this is you, don’t worry — there is no danger of dependence or overdose in increasing your dose of CBD if you need it, and there are no hard and fast rules for determining the best dose for you. It may take some experimentation to find your optimal dosing strategy, and that’s fine.

Listen to your body and make the adjustments you need to alleviate your symptoms and improve your quality of life. That said, we might have appreciated a graduated dropper (divided into fourths or so) to facilitate easier modifications of our dose. It’s not a deal-breaker by any means, just something we would have appreciated for this product in particular.

Because of the higher dose of CBD and other beneficial cannabinoids in this oil (43 mg in half a dropper and 86 mg in a full dropper), the effects are more intense than other lower-dosage products from the company. Those of us who use CBD primarily for chronic pain had great results with this oil, but one of our testers did note feeling a little drowsy after taking it. This sleepy feeling did not last for very long — 30 minutes or so — but we felt it was worth mentioning for more sensitive consumers.

Because of the relatively high dosage strength of this oil, we prefer it for management of moderate to more severe symptoms, especially chronic symptoms. We found the Restorative Botanicals Restore PURE6 hemp oil to be effective against chronic pain and inflammation in muscles, joints, and tendons, as well as symptoms relating to anxiety, depression, ADHD, and other chronic conditions.

The oil can also be used successfully to treat acute, intense symptoms, though relief will not be quite as immediate as it would be with, say, a vaporizer or a bowl of organic hemp flower. However, applying the oil to the gums could be easier than getting an unresponsive person to inhale from a vaporizer or smoking implement, so the specific nature of the symptoms you’re attempting to treat will inform your decision.

We experienced very good results with this oil in treating both chronic and acute pain, inflammation, swelling, anxiety, panic, and low mood. For localized pain and injury, however, we found it most effective when paired with a topical product, like the Comfort Balm to soothe symptoms directly while the oil worked from within to promote and speed healing.
