CBDfx CBD Balm – 150mg Product Review

When you unscrew the metal tin, CBDfx CBD Calming Balm 150mg smells sort of tropical and floral. Upon further investigations, we found that the sweet and wholesome aroma is a blend of tea tree, lavender, calendula, chamomile, and other natural, plant-based ingredients. The smell is bright and refreshing, and lingers around for 2-30 minutes after application, but is only barely noticeable at the 30-minute mark.

We didn’t taste it and wouldn’t recommend using this topical product anyway except externally. With such clean, natural ingredients, we can’t imagine it would taste terribly bad, but it probably doesn’t taste good, either.

This balm is solid in the tin but melts under the warmth of a fingertip. The balm feels thick at first, but works in smooth, and is easy to apply in a thin layer. A small amount spreads pretty far, and just a fingertip-sized amount was enough to cover a pretty large patch of skin, almost across our entire back.

It feels slightly oily at first but rubs in completely and the skin’s surface feels dry to the touch again immediately after application. It isn’t greasy and stays in place, so you shouldn’t have to worry about it affecting clothing.

We used this balm on a large, itchy rash across the back that was later identified as poison oak. Although the balm seemed to have no effect at first, the otherwise constant itching subsided after only half an hour. The balm needed to be reapplied every 2-3 hours to maintain the effects, however.

Another tester had a different use for the CBD balm and applied it to rough, calloused spots on his hands and feet. Though there were no immediate effects again, dry, rough skin looked and felt mostly renewed after four days of twice-daily applications.

As a final attempt to review the CBD-infused power of this balm, we applied it to a minor burn from carelessly handling our cast iron skillet, and we were truly impressed. The burning pain went away a few minutes after application, and the small burn had almost faded away after 4-5 hours, with no residual pain. The leftover burn mark was not inflamed, and we continued to apply the CBD balm every day until it healed entirely, which took about three days.

The duration of effects was similar to other tinctures we’ve tried. When managing anxiety during the day, one morning dose was enough to provide relief almost all day, and redosing may have been necessary after 7-8 hours if anxiety relief is needed all day. For managing more severe pain from a pulled shoulder muscle, redosing was necessary after about 4 hours. However, we noted that the effects of the CBD were very comparable to the previous treatment used, ibuprofen.

CBD has a range of potential uses, but topical CBD products like this one offer a unique opportunity to treat ailments affecting the skin or that can be targeted through the skin, like joint pain and muscle soreness. Studies have shown that the transdermal application of CBD helps soothe pain and inflammation due to rheumatoid arthritis.
