Description

Smell (Irrelevant to effects)

The Purple Gas strain from Canna Comforts smelled sweeter than we expected it to: rather floral, with notes of lavender and violet accompanied by a tangy citrus bite that mingled nicely with the familiar skunky scent associated with traditional cannabis.

Taste (Irrelevant to effects)

The flavor is sort of floral-sweet—think a cup of lavender Earl Grey tea with a touch of honey. The sweetness isn’t too pronounced when taken with the earthy flavors of hemp, producing a well-rounded flavor profile we really enjoyed.

Consistency

The flowers themselves are medium to large in size and, true to their name, bear a purplish cast to their muted green leaves, covered with a fine veneer of crystals.  Deep reddish-orange hairs punctuate the buds, accenting their almost lilac tone.

Effects (Onset, Duration, Intensity)

Because this high-CBD strain is meant to be smoked (though you could certainly use it to make your own CBD Products), its effects come on very quickly. We started feeling better moments after our first hit, experiencing relief from anxiety, depression, chronic pain, and soreness. We felt physically and mentally better — it’s hard to quantify, but we were less stressed, more focused, and generally in better moods.

The effects grew more intense with each hit and lasted for about 4 hours, with peak effects around 30 minutes to 1 hour from consumption. The flower’s quick effectiveness makes it ideal for treating sudden symptoms.

Best used for

In our experience, this high-CBD strain could be used for any application you would otherwise use a CBD extract for: we like that it provides a full spectrum of cannabinoids and is easy to consume. Its quick onset makes it especially attractive for treating sudden symptoms, such as anxiety attacks or muscle spasms. That said, it isn’t for people who cannot or choose not to smoke, unless you have plans to make a DIY extract with the flowers.

Best used with (Complimentary Product)

We really like this hemp flower as a systemic dose of CBD, but if you find yourself in need of localized pain relief, consider using a topical CBD salve to soothe inflammation at the surface while the hemp flower works from within to relieve it.

Value/Price

This particular strain consists of 16.43% CBD and costs $10 per gram, a price that drops off significantly when purchased in larger quantities. Each of the 164.3 mg of CBD contained within a single gram costs about $0.06 per milligram, making these flowers an excellent value for the price, especially if you are going to use them to make a CBD extract or tincture at home.

Competition/Alternatives

While CBD extracts have been growing in popularity for a number of years, smoke-able hemp flower is relatively new to the game—a few growers are experimenting with it, but hardly anyone has achieved the level of quality provided by Canna Comforts. We appreciate their commitment to sustainability and quality, as well as their attention to detail when breeding and cultivating their strains. Their care and attentiveness is evident in their product, and we really enjoy their work.
