Smell (Irrelevant to effects)

The Elektra high-CBD strain from Canna Comforts smells piney, citrusy, and sweet all at once, with just a note of a gasoline-like sourness. It’s full of terpenes like myrcene (found in mangoes), limonene (found in many lemon-flavored herbs, such as lemon balm or lemon thyme), and pinene (a terpene that yields a pine-like aroma), which give it its unique scent and may help boost the effectiveness of the CBD it contains.

Taste (Irrelevant to effects)

The piney flavor is the most prominent in the flavor profile when smoked or vaporized, though notes of tangy citrus and a touch of sweetness do finish out the aftertaste nicely. For as earthy as the taste was, we were surprised by how smoothly it hit—Elektra definitely performed on par with the top-shelf cannabis we’ve smoked.

Consistency

The nugs are medium to medium-large and are rich, smokey green in color. The flowers are coated in a fine but perceptible layer of trichomes and accented with long, pale orange hairs. The exterior of the flowers feels quite crystalline at first, but once you start breaking the nugs apart, an inner stickiness becomes apparent. We loved it, as this strain provides the best of both worlds: moist, sticky bud for a slow-burning bowl, and plenty of crystals for your kief catcher. That said, if you’re breaking the flower up by hand, you can expect to have sticky fingers when you’re done.

Effects (Onset, Duration, Intensity)

As this is an inhaled product, we felt the effects moments after taking our first hit. We felt relaxed, at ease, and felt a general sense of well-being and mood enhancement. We also noticed a marked decrease in chronic pain and inflammation that intensified the more we smoked. We found it helpful for depression, anxiety, muscle and joint pain, PMS and menstrual cramping, and low mood, and it’s easy to modify your dose since you can always take another hit or two if you need it.

We felt the effects for about 4 hours, with peak effects around 30-45 minutes after consumption. We got everything we needed from our normal dose of CBD within the experience of smoking flower, but without the high associated with traditional high-THC cannabis. We really enjoyed being able to smoke our daily dose of CBD in our favorite bowl or chill out with a joint that won’t keep us couch-locked for hours after.

Best used for

The beauty of this raw hemp flower is that it can be used to manage just about any condition you would otherwise use CBD extract or isolate to treat, from cancer to epilepsy to chronic pain. It’s a perfect option for people who benefit from CBD but miss smoking, or who are looking to purchase raw hemp flower from which to make their own extracts or tinctures.

Because of the ease of adjusting your dose with high-CBD flower, combined with its flexibility in terms of modes of consumption, hemp flower can provide high doses of CBD quickly and can be especially helpful in treating sudden symptoms, such as anxiety attacks or muscle spasms. It can also offer a novel way to introduce more CBD and other beneficial cannabinoids into your system as a supplement to an existing regimen. The full-spectrum benefits of raw hemp flower combined with its near-instantaneous effects make it ideal for treating a wide variety of conditions.

Best used with (Complimentary Product)

This is an outstanding systemic product to target pain, inflammation, and anxiety from within, but if you’re experiencing especially strong pain, consider soaking with a CBD bath bomb or using a CBD salve to provide more localized relief.

Value/Price

The Elektra strain contains 15.87% CBD and costs $10 per gram, a price that drops significantly when purchased in larger quantities. At this price, the price per milligram for the 158.7 mg contained within that gram would be about $0.06, making it an excellent value for the dose of CBD it contains. Because the per milligram cost of CBD is so much lower in raw flower than in extracts and isolates, hemp flower may be an especially good option for people who need CBD at very high doses.

Competition/Alternatives

While there are a few other growers out there experimenting with smokable hemp flower, we have yet to find someone who matches the quality and attention to detail of Canna Comforts. Their passion for cannabis is evident in their products, they’re committed to sustainability and transparency, and they pass our CBD Buyer’s Guide test for quality and purity.
