Writer Profile: Erin Spong

Born and raised outside of Minneapolis, Minnesota, Erin dedicated 14 winters to competitive alpine ski racing, starting at the age of five. Injuries—including her first hip surgery at 16 (she had her second at 24) and a couple severe concussions—kept Erin from pursuing ski racing in college. Instead, she set her focus on attending the University of Missouri (Mizzou) in Columbia, Missouri, to earn a journalism degree from one of the top journalism schools in the country. Erin graduated from Mizzou in the spring of 2016 with an emphasis in strategic communication and cum laude honors. Drawn to the mountains from an early age, Erin moved to Denver, Colorado, just 10 days after graduation and began her career as a creative copywriter for the advertising agency, Karsh Hagan. For two years, Erin developed creative content for clients such as Aspen Snowmass, Winter Park, and The Mountain Collective. Her experience in skiing and writing for ski-related clients eventually led her to become the Assistant Editor of FREESKIER Magazine, where she skied, traveled and wrote for the independently-owned magazine and website. As a skier, Erin has experienced more than her fair share of injuries (read above) and has found CBD to be the healthiest and most reliable way to manage her pain and anxiety. As the new Editor of Key to Cannabis, Erin is stoked to meld her passions for writing and holistic health, and to guide others to the perfect CBD products for their needs and lifestyles.
